Welcome to MY ROOTS.
It's kind of like MY SPACE but just A SPACE that I can express myself without formal representation.
I have always wanted to do this and I thank God for this opportunity. 2010, is the year of a new branch from old roots for me. If you've checked out my Bio page you would by now know that I started off on the gospel stage at a very young age. I've always stayed close to my roots, throwing in a couple songs in my Jazz sets sometimes. I aspire to be more than just a Jazz singer in this life, Jazz is a wonderful expression of beautiful music but Gospel has always been my soul. It's always been the heart of my spirituality and is reflected in any style of music that I lend my voice to. My first Gospel album entitled;
SONGS FROM MY HYMNAL, is set to be released in 2011 and is an original take on some well-known traditional hymns, from my own hymnal. It's currently in production at Dog House Studio in Toronto. I appreciate your support and hope to here from you as often as you visit this page, email me at; gospel@jasminbailey.com

YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION is a song from Hymns for Praise And Service.
This is my 2010 release single from SONGS FROM MY HYMNAL.
I grew up singing this song in church and as someone who loves God
I find it encouraging and strengthening when I sing or listen to it.
It was written by Horatio R. Palmer, 1868. If you're familiar with this song,
you'll notice that I only used the verses for this version.
I do hope, that this rendition is a blessing to you and others,
please feel free to leave me a comment in the box bellow
or sign up to our mailing list and get a free down load of this song.
You can also purchase a copy of the sound track for only $2. per down load.

YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION
Haratio R. Palmer
1. Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.
2. Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God’s name hold in rev’rence, nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.
3. To him that o’ercometh, God giveth a crown,
Through faith we will conquer, though often cast down;
He who is our Savior, our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

About the 2011 upcoming concert;
BACK TO MY ROOTS.
I guess that pretty much sums it all up, but there's more you should know. It's not a concert based on any religion or affiliated with any particular church.
It's not one of those mission concerts either and EVERYONE that loves God is invited. It's more of a hallelujah concert for people who appreciate listening to the gospel in song. It'll be a very spiritual experience for me that I will share with you. God lent me his gift and I've used it to entertain lovers of music for many years. The concert is for lovers of gospel / christian music. A time to offer back to God in a way, his blessings and to celebrate with others that share a common ambition. I believe that God blesses us with his gifts, to use them to glorify him, his name and to bless the hearts of those who know and love him. I hope to meet with you in celebration of being happy in Christ and finding my way back to the gospel. I hope to be able to sign your CD and personally thank you for your added support. Details for the concert will be posted later on this year, so look out for further notices.

I've recorded CDs before, worked on many projects and I must say, that doing this CD is by far the most fulfilling and the most fun. It brings back so many childhood memories of my friends and sisters singing along in church. Singing to all the songs from my old Hymnal that I've had since I was a little girl. I've wanted to do this for so long and it's a real dream come true to even get to this place of being on the right track again. The CD is entitled SONGS FROM MY HYMNAL and so it is. I'm in the recording studio every week throwing my hands up in the air and trying not to make too much noise while I dance around on one spot. The producer laughs at my antics but I'm shameless cause it's so spiritual for me. It's all coming back to me from deep down inside and I'm reliving the joy of loving God every single time I do a new song. I get so revved up that I just want to keep going. I can't wait to share this wonderful joy with you, it's such an amazing feeling.
The following is a list of songs that I've chosen from my hymnal for the album.
SONGS FROM MY HYMNAL
A stroll down memory lane.......my personal connection to each song.
1) Great is thy faithfulness.
Everyone in church wanted to do this song. FINALLY. Sounds mellow and content from me.
2) Yield not to temptation.
First single, 2010 release. Made it more popular in church when I was little.
3) What a friend we have in Jesus.
My mother's beautiful voice singing throughout our house.
Maureen Bailey, an amazing smile and contagious laughter.
4) Amazing grace.
Done many, many times. Sang it at my grandmother's funeral.
Twas the first song to come to mind, for obvious reasons.
5) Jesus loves me.
This song is like candy, Maple syrup, Honey and Sugar cane sweetness.
Five years old, Sunday school. 9:30 am.
My brother Tronn, playing together, baby Shyann brought home form the hospital with mom.
6) Speak thou to me.
Dedicated to my late grandmother Cleotta, Mama had a beautiful voice.
I only understood her English when she sang. She loved this song.
She'd sang this song over and over and over while she tended to her household duties.
I can never forget the experience of visiting her as a child almost every weekend.
7) It took a miracle.
Childhood hit.
Sherry, Beyanca, Jason, Marcia, friends from that time who sang along.
The late Jason Paterson, artist and friend encouraged me to take music more serious.
8) Oh happy day.
Being at home with my parents, celebrating life, oh happy days.
The good old days of being little and singing without a thought.
9) Down by the river side.
Get's me lit up like fireworks. Makes me want to shout hallelujah.
Hanging out as a youth down by the river side with people I didn't even know.
10) When we all get to heaven.
Deliverance Temple, Conventions, three little girls.
One little powerhouse by the name of Shyann.
Singing alongside my little sister. Choir, full thrust.
11) All hail the power.
My mother passed when I was 10, I looked to Jesus for comfort, found it in my hymnal.
I needed to love him more, to acknowledge his presence in my life.
Opened the hymnal and loved the words of this song.
12) It is well with my soul.
A song for my father, Ralph.
My daddy taught me about God's goodness and showed me how to pray.
I use to pass by his room on mornings and see him on his knees praying.
To know that it is well with my soul is a comfort to his soul I'm sure.
