JASMIN

Jasmin Bailey:    VOX / PERCUSSION

The new sound of jazz.
(CANADIAN style)
An untraditional experience of jazz music.
A clean breath of fresh air and a welcoming sign of more to come.
Jasmin Bailey derived from the roots of soulful musicians that inspired her to evolve into an amazing jazz vocalist and performer.
Since 1999 she's been writing and performing on stages across North America, and the Caribbean, singing her heart out to people of many different cultures and lovers of music. She has graced some of Toronto's best live musical venues, such as The Home Smith's Bar at the Old Mill, 1055 on Young Street, the Distillery District, In The Mood, Alleycatz, various corporate functions and many others. Jasmin Bailey has been established amongst the elite of jazz singers with three steady gigs a week. Her original sound is partly due to her voice, the original songs she sings and her unique trio band setting. Along with singing, Jasmin plays an electronic percussion pad that allows her to play any type of percussion sound. She's also very much sought after by songwriters in Toronto. In 2005 she was featured on at least 12 tracks on six different projects. She's been a guest vocalist on many independent c.d. projects over the last year. Her band has become one of the busiest in Ontario and is well received by fans and jazz lovers throughout Canada.
The Jasmin Bailey band was first formed in 2003 as a duo with Jasmin Bailey and Richard Uglow. Jasmin sang and played percussions while Richard played on piano, bass pedals, and chromatic harmonica. Together they sounded like much more than a duo. In 2006 they marked they're signature of originality by collaborating with one of the country's best lyricist by the name of Johnny Blue.  Adding to their fans collections, a new voice in jazz music. "Canadian Jazz Music." With Richard composing the music, Johnny composing most of  the lyrics and Jasmin's singing, they introduced their new CD entitled To the change in you. Also in 2005 Mike McClelland, a well respected drummer and saxophone player was added to the list of J.B. band members. Now, with Mike's drumming and sax the band sounds much more than it is and is more than completed.  All professional and experience jazz players and lovers of jazz, each musician contributing their own history, adding to the unique sound and experience of the band.
A.K.A.   A MUST SEE LIVE EXPERIENCE.

Jasmin Bailey was born  in Montreal Québec into a family of musical talents.
She spent most of her childhood moving about with her parents.
She started singing gospel music at the age of five, but it wasn't until she was sixteen
that she realized that music was her purpose in life and that she was able to extend her talent even more.
She's been performing live ever since she can remember and even when things were low
she couldn't give it up for a desk job.
Her jazz influences came from her late mother Maureen Bailey who sang her heart out
in some of Montréal's jazz clubs in the old days before her time.
Her father Ralph Beckles was also a musician playing the trumpet and singing.
Her sister Shayne Bailey also a singer is well known in her field of music.
Sometimes they can be seen performing live together at certain venues in Toronto.
Mostly, at the end of the day she gives credit to her partner Richard Uglow
for opening her eyes to a life of more jazz.  Jasmin Bailey's musical contribution to jazz music includes the addition of her warm and welcoming vocals and the Richard Uglow original compositions that presents an untraditional sway of new jazz music. Canadian style.

RICHARD

Richard Uglow:      PIANO / HARMONICA / BASS PEDALS / GUITAR

I was born in Toronto Ontario and I started playing with my organ in my mother's womb.
I started playing the piano when I was about seven.
To me it was just another way for me to express myself.
I got into the base pedals when I was about thirty five, playing a steady gig and got board.
The chromatic harmonica is a harmonica with all the notes of a piano
and that got into me when I was thirty nine.
I played clasical guitar when I was a teenager and that just extended into jazz.
I guess I've been called the musical octopus at our live shows.
I think now, with that said you just have to come see us for yourself.

MIKE

Mike McClelland:
     DRUMS /  SAX

Was born in London Ontario to be the dynamic drummer that he is.
He does not perform, he drums  like a maniac in a straight jacket with no facial expressions.
It's madness"
How he remains so calm and collective during his solo pieces is beyond his fans and students.
He is known as Professor Mike on stage and teaches part time to drummers and would be drummers.
He's one of those drummers that just don't know how to sweat it.
Mike's been in this talented drumming business expressing himself shyly but profoundly
since he stopped using diapers.
Mike intends to keep using his sticks, (STICKS!)
Beating his drums and not shaving his beard, until he back in diapers again.
The only way to describe Mike is like;
"wow!"
"an experience"
(A MUST SEE LIVE.)

JOHNNY

Johnny Blue:     LYRICS

His first memories of singing are as a 4 year old amid the laundry on the washing
lines behind the Scottish tenement where he lived.
At the age of 9 the songwriting muse descended on young Johnny Blue.
From the Renfrewshire folk scene through stints with pop-rock bands in Scotland and Canada,
he has written songs in most musical genres.
(The lyrics on the new jazz album by jasmine bailey were penned by Mr. Blue.)

songwriter in his own right.
We would like to recognize Johnny as a brilliant lyricist
in many styles but especially for his contribution to the eclectic styles of the
jasmin bailey music. Johnny Blue, your art, is much appreciated.
Thank you.
